The Grant County Winterguard concluded their first year’s participation in the TriState Winterguard Circuit with a third place win and then topping off the year with two first place championships. In its debut year, the Grant County program included both middle school and high school students.
The competition featured Winterguard and Indoor Percussion teams
from Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana. Grant County Winterguard was seated
in third place in the Schoolstic A-3 group with a total of 19 in the
class, going into the competition at Ryle High School on April 2.
Only South Point and North Laurel were seated above them.
Grant County’s performance landed them at the top with a score of 75. North Laurel came in second with 72.5 and South Point third with 69.
The Grant County Indoor Percussion, also in their first year in
Percussion Scholastic B Tri-State competition, were hindered by
inclement weather, which forced cancellation of many practices.
However, they were still able to place at every competition during
the season. Going into the finals against 12 bands, they held sixth
seat standing. Their show earned them a score of 75.8, which ended
the season at sixth place. Garrard County won first with a score of
80.13, ending a close competition with the top six schools separated
by only 4.33 points. (Submitted by Staci Owen)
